About Solarey, Inc.

Solarey, Inc. is located in northern California, where we have designed, developed, and produced all the technology used in the Ecolight®. We have been refining the Ecolight® over the past 9 years, perfecting the supercapacitor– and LED technology over this period and needed these years for supercapacitors to improve both in performance and cost to make them viable for this product.

The Ecolight® is a rechargeable flashlight that uses supercapacitors in lieu of batteries; these supercapacitors can be recharged an almost indefinite number of times. They store power electrostatically in spaces between carbon atoms (activated carbon) rather than chemically as batteries do. We have developed our own solid-state “output circuitry,” which is “more efficient that a microchip,” this is how we are able to get 45 minutes of very high-brightness light per charge from our supercapacitors. We have built in the low setting so that if you need light for an extended time, you'll be able to get about 3.5 - 4 hours of light from a full charge, and while this light on Low is not “superbright,” it's enough to read by or walk with.

We developed the methods to fully charge the Ecolight® in three ways: In the sun for about 70 minutes (the solar panel is embedded inside the handle), with a USB cable to a computer for about four minutes, and with a car charger also for four minutes. Super capacitors can be charged very quickly--without any internal damage or excessive heat build up in the process.

The ergonomic handle and switch design are some of its best features for a flashlight on the market. The handle fits comfortably in your hand, with a slight enlargement towards the back, preventing you from dropping it; a lanyard is included for extra safety. Also, the switch is of a completely new design requiring only forward pushes with your thumb (for High, Low, and Off settings); this represents the easiest movement for your thumb, and it takes very little force to operate the switch, so it is easy to operate.

The Ecolight®'s circuitry as well as the method and use of super capacitors and LEDs in portable lighting are covered by our two U.S. Uutility Ppatents (U.S. Patents 6,563,269 & 7,323,849). Our flashlight name, Ecolight® is a registered U.S. trademark. Dr. John Miller, JME, our supercapacitor consultant is considered “the world's leading authority ” on the subject.

We check each unit before shipping, which we do within 24 hours. The AC charger is included at no extra charge; the car charger needs to be ordered separately. However, since the Ecolight® will charge in sunlight, neither is necessary but these chargers are extremely convenient  methods of quickly charging this flashlight.

If you are interested in retailing or re-selling the Ecolight® please contact us at mrobi@sonic.net since we sell wholesale to other retailers.

This is the first post about the Ecolight. I started developing this flashlight about 9 years ago when I saw the components available that could make a flashlight that would never need batteries or a bulb; these components were supercapacitors and LEDs. My dad was an electrician and when I was a kid he told me how capacitors are often charged and discharged thousands of times and never wear out - so I remember asking him why we couldn't use capacitors instead of batteries for things like flashlights and radios - he said because the capacitor would need to be as big as a house to hold enough power. Then about 20 some years ago super capacitors were invented and have been getting better every year. The Ecolight uses 2 super capacitors that are each the size of a C-cell battery. Some of the great things about these capacitors are that they can be recharged very quickly (4-minutes for the Ecolight) and an almost indefinite amount of times because they hold power electro statically rather than chemically, and finally they are made of non-toxic components. I made about 8 to 10 prototypes along the way until the final Ecolight that I am selling today. Most of them have been taken apart so the parts could be used for future prototypes, but the very first one I built I still have and I still use it for camping as it is solar charged and still works well. I'll post a picture of it soon. My dad died about a little over a year ago and before the Ecolight came out, but I'm sure he's thinking about that conversation we had back in 1964 now that its finally out - so I owe a lot of gratitude to him for all the help he gave me in learning about electronics.

Warranty: We offer a 2-year Full Warranty: We will repair without charge any defects to faulty materials or workmanship for two years from the date of purchase. We agree to replace a defective Ecolight® if a repair cannot be made. This warranty does not cover parts failure due to abuse.

HISTORY: The Ecolight is a new product just being introduced in 2009. Under development for almost a decade, the Ecolight® was finally introduced in 2009. Our previous company, Time Now Inc., earned a 100% positive eBay rating based on customer feedback while we owned the product - the Invisible Clock and still to this day boasts an outstanding 98.9% positive eBay customer feedback ranking since we sold this product to Time Now, Inc. about 3 years ago. (You can find this feedback yourself at ebayfeedback). In the years while we  developed and sold the Invisible Clock, we consistently honored our warranty as well as return policy, and likewise we promise to stick to the same standards with the Ecolight®. The previous product we developed and brought to market (our company was named Time Now Corporation in those days), the Invisible Clock [www.invisibleclock.com] has sold about 60,000 units from 1999 to date.
